Construction & Trade Program
At SEDA College NT, we change students’ lives by developing real skills and preparing them for a successful future.
Our Construction and Trade Program provides a practical senior secondary pathway for Year 11 students, equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed for careers in the construction and trades industries. Students complete a construction qualification alongside their NTCET, combining classroom learning with hands-on experience in real trade environments.
Students will undertake the CPC20220 Certificate II in Construction Pathways* qualification, supported by weekly work experience that allows them to apply their learning in real workplaces and build confidence for future careers. This unique combination ensures graduates leave SEDA College NT apprenticeship-ready and confident in their chosen trade pathway.
What You Will See
Students learn through a balanced weekly structure:
- Classroom-based NTCET & VET learning sessions
- Trade Training Days in industry environments
- Time dedicated to developing practical skills and applying learning in real-world settings
This structure builds routine, independence, and workplace readiness.
Learning extends beyond the classroom into real construction and trade environments. Through trade training days at Housing Industry Association (HIA) facility, work experience, and industry engagement, students apply their skills in practical settings, building confidence, independence, and workplace readiness.
Each student develops a personalised plan through the College's MyPLAN system to track goals, experiences, and progress. Regular check-ins support reflection, growth, and ownership of their learning pathway.
Students are supported by both their teacher and a dedicated support team, ensuring academic, wellbeing, and engagement needs are met throughout the year.
What Students Experience
Students participate in community projects as part of their NTCET and VET learning, contributing to the construction of basic structures for local schools. These experiences build practical skills, teamwork, and confidence in real-world environments while allowing students to make a meaningful contribution to their community.
Through our partnerships with Intract Australia and McMahon Services, students gain access to hands-on training, mentoring, and industry connections. These experiences not only help students discover the trade that best suits their skills and interests but also create direct pathways into apprenticeships and employment after graduation.
Students complete structured work experience one day per week in Semester 1, increasing to two days per week in Semester 2. This provides opportunities to explore career pathways, develop practical workplace skills, and build valuable industry connections.
Students participate in camps, competitions, and leadership programs that build resilience, connection, and personal growth.
Students develop real-world industry skills through hands-on trade training, structured work experience, and VET qualifications aligned to construction and trade pathways. In addition, Year 11 students undertake White Card and First Aid courses, delivered by external registered training organisations and supported by College teachers.
